Since Chris's mother died when he was sixteen years old, he has lived for only one goal: seeking revenge on his mother’s ex-lover, Kevin. Determined not to repeat his mother’s mistake, Chris vows never to fall into love’s seductive, deceptive clutches.
With Kevin’s business teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, Chris senses his chance. He kidnaps Kevin’s stepdaughter, Julia, and sets a ransom—if Kevin cancels a company-saving business deal, then Julia will be returned. The scheme seems perfect—until Chris’s long-suppressed feelings for Julia bubble to the surface. Julia, meanwhile, proves a resilient captive with a knack for pushing Chris’s buttons, even as her own feelings for her kidnapper become increasingly conflicted.
As the passion between Chris and Julia heats up, other forces come into play. Chris isn’t the only one who wants Julia, nor is he the only one willing to abduct her to satisfy his needs. Julia’s life—and perhaps Chris’s only chance at love—are in danger.

You can’t have her.” Pat’s voice vibrated in the air. “She’s out of your reach.”
Chris slowly took his eyes off the captivating creature he was watching and looked at his cousin, surprised. He’d never met a woman that he’d wanted but couldn’t have. Why should this one be any different?
Is she married?” Chris asked as he glanced again at the girl who had drawn his attention like a magnet. He imagined her glossy lips on his and swallowed, almost feeling their sweet taste. She was too young to be married—definitely too young. The innocence was oozing out of her every pore.
Worse,” Pat replied. “She’s Kevin’s stepdaughter.”
Chris’s jaw clenched painfully. Nothing would be more satisfying than having his enemy’s stepdaughter lying at his feet begging for mercy. Oh, he would make her beg. Chris’s heart pounded as he thought of the things he would do to her.
What’s her name?” he asked.
Julia Adams.”
Chris scanned Julia’s body. It was covered—or rather uncovered—by a simple, classy dress that showed half of her back and her mile-long legs. She wasn’t short to start with, and the black high heels she was wearing made her even taller. Her neck was shining with diamonds, drawing attention to her gorgeous face as if the dress and the shoes were not enough to drive every man crazy. A small strand of blond hair fell on the side of her face. Chris wished he could move it back to keep Julia’s blue eyes fully uncovered. His fingers tingled. The inability to touch her was a hard test of his self-control. To add to Chris’s torture, Julia was in conversation with Dexter, the CEO of SPS.
Does she ever come to parties without Kevin?” Chris figured he could get what he wanted if Kevin wasn’t around. He was ready to start attending all those parties he used to avoid if it meant he could see Julia.
Never,” Pat replied with a serious face, “and she doesn’t leave the house without a bodyguard either.”
How do you know all this and I don’t?” Chris asked.
It’s because you do whatever you want while I do what is good for us. Social presence is important for our business. At least one of us should show up at these kinds of events.” Pat smiled.
You seem to enjoy it, and I don’t. Why should I suffer by joining you when you can have fun on your own?” Chris asked, thinking that his suffering had drastically changed form since the last time he’d joined Pat at one of these boring parties. It wasn’t about the politics and phony smiles anymore. Now he had a piece of delicious cake on his plate that he couldn’t eat because it was locked under a glass dome, to which Kevin had the key. Chris looked at Julia and let out a big sigh.
She’s not worth the trouble, Chris,” Pat said, looking at him warily.
Chris swallowed. “Oh, I think she is. She’s more than worth it. She might be great leverage in our war with Kevin. There must be some moments when she’s alone.”
I’ll keep an eye on her.” Pat didn’t sound excited, but Chris knew he could count on him.

About the Author
Izabela Monick is the author of a suspenseful romance novel, Evitable Destiny, a complex mix of love, hate, trust, betrayal, and steamy sexual encounters. Izabela has loved writing long essays and making up stories since she was young. She used to think of new endings to her favorite books during school hours, often displeasing her teachers because of this constant daydreaming. She continued devising new ways to change plots of books she’s read into adulthood. One day, while sitting in a business meeting, she got lost in her thoughts and was brought back to reality with a demand for an answer to a question she didn’t hear. It was then that she decided to write a book with her very own ending and get the voices out of her head. The reality is that once the old voices come out, new ones come in, and stories never end. Now Izabela delights in shocking her readers with unexpected twists and turns, while keeping her plots brimming with heated passion until the final page.

Excerpt

Death crept into the castle. Mara could feel its darkness pressing her down. As she walked to her father's bedchamber, the thought of marrying a man she did not love weighed heavily on her. All the invitations had been sent out months ago. Just as her life was beginning to almost feel normal, her father, King Philip, had fallen ill along with the court of Casmerelda and much of the kingdom. The second wave of the plague violently spread, leaving a trail of death and burning corpses for the living to clean up.
Her father had been bedridden for three days. His fever spiked and his skin glistened. He grew delirious, falling in and out of consciousness. As much as she despised him for what he’d done to her sister’s boyfriend, he was still her father. She didn’t want to be left alone.
“You must marry Astin at once.”
Mara cringed. “I can’t.” Her lips hidden as she wore a piece of ivory cloth against her nose and mouth, the slightest bit of protection from the disease that had taken over the kingdom. “I don’t love him. Please don’t do this to me.”
“Don’t be selfish.” The words struggled to reach his lips. He coughed and heaved, his chest rising and falling quickly as his pulse raced. “I’ll be with your mother soon…”
“You’ll be dead.”
Taking in several deep breaths, he opened his mouth, his words coming out as a whisper. “You will be reigning queen. Mara, you must act the part. Marry Astin and forge an alliance with the country of Morro, for the sake of Casmerelda. Your people need you.”
“I need you,” Mara said, gripping her father’s hand. She frowned, studying the tips of his fingers, a blackened hue lacing his skin.
“You shouldn’t touch me.” He tried to pull away, unsuccessfully. Her grip remained tight, but more significantly, he’d grown weak from the disease ravaging his body.
“I haven’t been infected, and I’ve been at your bedside every night.” Mara ordered the servants to bring more water and rags. It had done little good to break his fever or alleviate the discomfort he must have been experiencing, but it was all she could think of to help.
“Marry Astin.” His words were rough slipping past his lips. He wheezed, trying to speak, but Mara rested a hand upon his chest.
“Don’t.” She didn’t want to have this conversation again.
“For the sake of the kingdom,” he said, pleading with her.
Mara refused to answer. Marrying Astin wasn’t what she wanted. “I have no desire to be queen so young. You will pull through, do you hear me?”
He’d fallen into a deep slumber, unable to answer her.
